Credit Inquiry
A lender creates a credit inquiry when they lookup or pull your credit report. A credit inquiry is recorded on your credit report. There are two types of credit inquiries soft and hard. A soft inquiry occurs when you pull your own credit report, a potential employer looks at your report, or a finance company is looking at your report in order to send you marketing messages. Soft credit inquiries do not adversely affect your credit score. Hard inquiries occur when a lender runs your credit because you applied for an account. Hard credit inquiries can lower your credit score if too many occur in a short period of time.
